Our Executive Team

Bill Carlton

Bill Carlton brings vision, countless campaign successes and exceptional credentials to his role as chief fundraising counsel for clients across the country.  

Prior to founding Carlton & Company in 1994, Mr. Carlton spent many years as a senior officer for premier fundraising consultancies in the U.S., including Ketchum Inc.

Mr. Carlton has managed and supervised campaigns for more than 250 clients and is one of an elite group of 81 individuals worldwide to hold the ACFRE credential, awarded by the Association of Fundraising Professionals to the most senior and accomplished practitioners in the field. He is also a Board Member of the Giving Institute, an alliance of premier professional consulting firms, and of The Giving USA Foundation. 

A graduate of Westminster College in Pennsylvania and Princeton Theological Seminary, Mr. Carlton also completed the Social Enterprise program at Harvard Business School.

Carlton & Company clients benefit from Peter Nagle’s depth and diversity of experience and extraordinary dedication to clients and their fundraising goals.

Before joining Carlton & Company in 1994, Mr. Nagle was a senior campaign director at Ketchum Inc. From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Nagle was the managing partner of Nagle & Washburn, a Boston-based fundraising consulting firm specializing in capital and annual fundraising, community relations and strategic planning.

Previously, Mr. Nagle served as Senior Development Officer for Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and was the Director of Development and Community Relations for Choate Memorial Hospital in Woburn, Massachusetts. Mr. Nagle’s experience also includes executive positions with United Way organizations in San Francisco and Hartford.

 

Mark D. Walker, CFRE, Vice-President and Senior Counsel

Mr. Walker is a seasoned development leader experienced in cross cultural settings and dedicated to promoting international collaboration. Fluent in Spanish, Mark is known as an outstanding team builder with an ability to inspire others to excel.  His fundraising specialties include majors gifts, planned giving, foundations and international fundraising.   

Before joining Carlton & Company Mark was the President of Arizona-based Fund Development Innovations LLC,  a fundraising consulting firm serving clients such as The Namaste Foundation, Stop Hunger Now and Jewish Voice Ministries International among many others.

Previously, Mark was the Vice President of Development at the Make A Wish Foundation International where he was responsible for both capital and annual fundraising programming.  Earlier in his career he managed programs with Plan International as a Director in Guatemala, Colombia, and Sierra Leone and over a ten year period served as the Senior Representative for MAP International, a global health and development agency working with some of the world’s poorest communities.  Mark began his career in the fundraising field in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as the Senior Director for Fund Development for World Neighbors in Oklahoma City, and as Director of Development for Food for the Hungry in Scottsdale, Arizona.

A veteran of the Peace Corps, Mr. Walker, holds a masters degree in Sociology and Economics from the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas in Austin.  Mark is the President-Elect of the Greater Arizona Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, a Past President of the Planned Giving Roundtable of Arizona and has been a presenter at the Hemispheric Congress for Fundraising in Mexico City for three years with a focus on “Best Practices."  His honors include the “Service Above Self” Award from Rotary International.

Michael Clark

Mr. Clark has been helping clients tell their stories with audiovisual media for over 20 years. At Carlton & Company, Michael has developed the firm’s iCASE™ program, a unique approach that enables nonprofits to tell their story through the systematic use of online media within an overall fundraising program. iCASE™ has been designed not only to tell a compelling story but also to play a critical role in developing campaign leadership, major gifts prospects, and widespread community support.

In addition to managing the online aspects of campaigns, Michael prides himself on his people skills and is well regarded by clients as a hands-on manager with the ability to coordinate the various aspects of case development, leadership acquisition and major gifts cultivation.

Before joining Carlton & Company, Michael was senior partner at KindStream Media, a web media and marketing firm, where he became an expert on the use of online audiovisual media as a key component of advocacy and fundraising campaigns. At KindStream, Mr. Clark consulted with a wide variety of associations, corporations, politicians, nonprofits, and state and local governments.

A graduate of Thunderbird School of Global Management, Mr. Clark has developed marketing campaigns for both domestic and international audiences and spent several years as a video producer working on military history documentaries, commercials and instructional videos. He resides in Durham, New Hampshire.

 

Stephen F. Hall, Senior Counsel and Western Regional Manager

With business acumen and expertise that comes from 20 years in the field, Mr. Hall builds long-term client relationships by consulting with numerous organizations on issues of fundraising, organizational planning and development and communications. Among his specialties: strategic planning, marketing, donor research, fundraising planning studies, system analysis, readiness assessments and case development.

Mr. Hall has spearheaded numerous initiatives including the Centennial Committee & Fund at Boston University's College of Arts and Sciences and the annual giving effort for The Thunderbird School of Global Management. He is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Mentor Committee, and has served on the boards the Pima County Medical Society Foundation and Thunderbird, and is a member of the Yale School of Management’s Nonprofit Ventures Resource Center.

A retired Naval Reserve Intelligence Officer, Mr. Hall is a graduate of Boston University and received his graduate management degree from Thunderbird. He is a published author and called-upon expert for media including the Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur Magazine and CNBC's “Money Talk.”
