Great Annual Duck Race & Community Groundbreaking!!

May 23, 2010 -The Springfield Area Parent Child Center broke ground for our new 12,500 square foot headquarters building on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 during our Great Annual Duck Race and Community Groundbreaking.

The event began with more than 700 rubber ducks vying for first prize as they floated lazily down the Black River in front of a large crowd on a hot and sunny Sunday. After the race the crowd moved a few yards from the river to the site of the new building to hear the race results and to participate in the Community Groundbreaking using souvenir children’s beach shovels provided for the occasion.

VIP diggers included Jeff Matulonis of the Chamber of Commerce, Town Selectman Kristi Morris, Parent Child Center board chair Tracey Tanny, board member Cynthia Martin, Executive Director Betty Kinsman, Campaign Chair Paul Kendall, Architect Mike Purvis, Ted Chivers, President of All Seasons Construction and Tom Appel, President of New England Management Company, the project manager for the new construction.
