Senator Leahy Kicks Off Capital Campaign with $100K

News & Events

The Parent Child Center kicked off its $1 million capital campaign before a standing room only crowd on Tuesday with guest of honor Senator Patrick Leahy announcing a combined $100,000 federal grant from the USDA and federal stimulus funds.

“I'm pleased to announce this award to an organization that's worked so hard over the past 17 years to support the communities of the Springfield area," he said.

Betty Kinsman, Executive Director of the Parent Child Center said the organization has been working toward this day for over two years. “The number of kids and families we’ve been serving has more than doubled in the last couple of years,” she said. “The board set out a plan for the new building and we’ve been working hard to make it a reality.”

Paul Kendall, chairman of the fundraising campaign and president of Lawrence and Wheeler Insurance, announced that the campaign had thus far raised $300,000 toward the $1 million goal. He said the new building “is critical to the future of our communities so I’m hoping the people of our communities come together and help us get it done.”
